Starting at 10:30 on Saturday mornings, a series of single-session 90-minute cooking classes based on the MyPlate curriculum for kids ages 5 through 13 will be offered in the Municipal Center. Classes focus on the preparation of school-style lunches in three popular styles: American, March 11; Italian, April 22; and Mexican, May 13.
Beginning at 9:30 on Saturday, February 11, Baker’s Dozen Academy, a North Hills after-school baking program for kids run by culinary artists Debbie Dee and Teri Koms, will be holding a series of four holiday-themed two-hour classes also in the Municipal Center for kids age 5 through 12. They include Valentine’s Day treats, February 11; St. Patrick’s Day Fun, March 11; Easter Bunnies and Eggs, April 1; and Mother’s Day gifts, May 6. Registration is separate for each individual class.
Age-appropriate hands-on activities related to nutrition will also be offered for children 3 to 5 years of age. During six weekly one hour long sessions, starting at 11:30 on Wednesday, March 1, the Lil’ Sprouts Cooking Class will encourage children to become involved in the kitchen and to try healthy foods. Parents are welcome to stay for the class, although it’s not required.
Registration for all programs is available in person at the Municipal Center Parks & Recreation Information Desk, or online.
