Bye, bye Public Safety Department

There’s a new department in town. The Cranberry Fire and Emergency Services Department was formally established with a resolution by the Township’s Board of Supervisors at its April 27 meeting. The reorganization of the community’s public safety functions grew out of a fire company strategic planning effort that began two years ago, leading to a report which the Board adopted last year. It called for creation of the new department, while the Police Department, which had formerly been under the Public Safety Department umbrella, would report directly to the Township Manager. David Gallagher, who has spent his career as a Paramedic and Chief of EMS for a service in western Allegheny County as well as the Chief of his hometown fire department in Stowe, will be the new department’s first Director.
