[ARCHIVED] Freedom Road gets new surface, new signal upgrade

Two related developments along Freedom Road in Cranberry will be taking place through the end of August. Roadway milling operations, which began August 10, started at the Beaver County line and will continue moving east. Leveling and patching work will take place the week of August 19. Paving is scheduled for the week of August 23. Crews will be working from 9 PM to 6 AM, Sunday through Thursday.
As pavement milling is taking place, the detector loops embedded in that pavement will be taken out of service and replaced with pole-mounted radar cameras. The detectors control the timing of traffic signals at intersections. Similar cameras are currently in place at locations throughout the Township.
Short term changes in signal operation may be experienced during the transition, although vehicle. movement in all directions will continue at each intersection. Signals will be restored to their normal operating patterns following the upgrade.
PennDOT’s resurfacing project includes milling, patching, paving, drainage and guide rail upgrades between the Beaver County line and Cranberry Mall Drive. Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. is the contractor responsible for the resurfacing work. Motorists are advised to exercise care when traveling through construction areas and to be alert for slow moving traffic approaching the work zones.
