Dr. Carl Robertson, independent historian of the Providence Plantation Foundation, will share with the public a preview of his nearly finished book “George Washington’s First Road to Revolution: The Historic Route of 1753.”
In the book, he documents Washington’s entire route from Williamsburg, Virginia to Fort LeBoeuf, below Lake Erie, and back. This is the first major attempt by any scholar to trace the route that Christopher Gist, his guide, had “blazed,” and Washington again followed in 1754 to Great Meadows and Braddock’s Army in 1755 for the Battle with the French and Indians on the Monongahela.
