Several local roads will have their surfaces treated with a double-seal tar and chip process starting immediately after Memorial Day. The treatment involves spreading loose gravel over the road surface and then spraying with a tar binder. Navigating roads covered with loose gravel can be dangerous for bicycle and motorcycle riders, so using caution on those roads is strongly encouraged. The affected roads are Old Rt. 19 and Progress Avenue on Tuesday, May 31, Freshcorn Road from Glen Eden to Heights Drive on Wednesday. Powell Road from the Turnpike to Drake Circle is scheduled for Thursday. All dates are subject to change resulting from weather conditions; schedule updates will be posted on Cranberry Township’s website.
Two or three days after the conclusion of the road treatment, the contractor will return to sweep up any excess loose gravel. Please drive with caution and take notice of the loose gravel signs that will be posted. Questions can be directed to Bob Howland, Streets Manager, 724-776-4806 ext. 1521 or Bob.Howland@cranberrytownship.org.
