Rainwater and groundwater that find their way into a community’s sanitary sewer lines end up getting treated along with the wastewater delivered to its treatment plant. If the sewer lines are too porous due to cracks, breaks and illegal connections, the surge of rainwater could be overwhelming, creating harmful and illegal overflows. To keep Cranberry’s sanitary network lines free of intrusion from naturally occurring water, the Township has a vigorous infiltration and inflow abatement program in place. At its June 5 meeting, Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors was updated on the status of that program and the criteria used to initiate system repairs.
