Following continuous work which began in the spring of 2012, all construction zone lane restrictions have now been removed along Rt. 228 in Cranberry. Three left turn lanes from Cranberry Woods Drive onto 228 westbound are now available for use. Their opening to traffic follows completion of the corresponding receiving lanes on 228. The triple left turn lanes provide capacity for more than 1,000 vehicles an hour that exit Westinghouse and other Cranberry Woods companies each weekday evening. The opening of the triple left turning lanes was closely integrated with several other traffic flow improvements to the immediate area including new right turn entrance ramps from 228 onto I-79 both north and southbound, and the free-flow right turn lane from Cranberry Springs Drive onto 228, immediately across from Cranberry Woods Drive. Together, these enhancements are designed to provide more capacity and extend the green time for motorists travelling along the highway. Temporary short-term closures may be used as needed for final work.
