Cranberry maintains over 200 PCs, three-quarters of which are approaching retirement age. But replacing them all would be a fortune. Instead, IT Director Adam Osterrieder told Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors, his department would expand their random access memory and outfit them with solid state hard drives – extending their lives and improving their speed – at a fraction of the cost of replacement. In addition, the department plans to acquire software which would enable IT staff to create tools that would help improve the Township’s management of various business processes including its physical assets and hiring processes. Finally, the aging battery of servers which support Cranberry’s computers will be gradually phased over to a pair of new, more efficient server devices which will be mirrored at separate Township locations.
