Last year the flood insurance program operated by FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Administration, was revised to sharply raise the premiums for property owners whose buildings fell into either 100-year or 500-year flood plains established in 1982. As a result, Township Waterworks Coordinator Tim Schutzman told Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors on February 26, a number of residents appealed the map’s depiction of their lowest floor elevation and ground contours affecting their properties. appealed the map’s contour lines affecting their properties. FEMA also published a draft version of updated flood maps and encouraged municipalities to update their ordinances accordingly.
