[ARCHIVED] Residents appeal flood maps

Last year the flood insurance program operated by FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Administration, was revised to sharply raise the premiums for property owners whose buildings fell into either 100-year or 500-year flood plains established in 1982. As a result, Township Waterworks Coordinator Tim Schutzman told Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors on February 26, a number of residents appealed the map’s depiction of their lowest floor elevation and ground contours affecting their properties. appealed the map’s contour lines affecting their properties. FEMA also published a draft version of updated flood maps and encouraged municipalities to update their ordinances accordingly. Cranberry will hold a public hearing concerning its floodplain ordinance updates on March 26. For more information, contact tim.schutzman@cranberrytownship.org.
