[ARCHIVED] Wear your seatbelt – or else.

For years now, motorists and front-seat passengers, as well as any back seat passengers 18 or younger in Pennsylvania, have been required to wear either seat belts or child safety seat restraints. Not wearing one is considered a secondary offense for which you can only be cited if you are pulled over for a different type of traffic violation. But for the rest of May, Cranberry police and many other local police departments will be especially vigilant for signs of failure to wear seatbelts – particularly when they involve passengers under 18. An enhanced enforcement program initiated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration called Click it or Ticket, will take place in Cranberry between May 18 and May 31 to emphasize the importance of buckling up. Violators will be subject to fines ranging from $60 to $100 for each child under 4 who is not properly restrained. For more information, contact Sgt. Wm. Ahlgren
