A harrowing moment in June 2023 at the Township Waterpark had a happy ending thanks to the quick action of staff. Now, their efforts are being honored by the American Red Cross.
During the Feb. 1 Board of Supervisors meeting, the American Red Cross Southwestern Pennsylvania Chapter honored four lifeguards who saved a 12-year-old boy from drowning at the Waterpark.
Lifeguards Greta Schmidt, Olivia Schzure, Garrett Shreve, and Paige Welch utilized skills learned in an American Red Cross Training Services course to help save the boy’s life. They were trained and consistently coached of proper methods by David Hutner, Cranberry’s Recreation Program Manager, and a Red Cross instructor.
Jorge Martinez, Regional CEO of the American Red Cross of Greater Pennsylvania and Executive Director of the American Red Cross Southwestern Pennsylvania Chapter, joined the Board of Supervisors in honoring the individuals. They were presented a certificate, citation, and lapel pin from the American Red Cross.
