Up to five cable-style gunlocks per household are available, free of charge, from the Cranberry Township Police Department. The locks are provided through a nationwide program called Project ChildSafe. Since 2003 the program, which is a partnership of the firearms industry, U.S. Dept. of Justice grants, and the National Shooting Sports Foundation together with local law enforcement, elected officials, community leaders, state agencies and businesses – has distributed more than 35 million locks to gun owners. Its aim is to promote safe gun handling and storage practices.
