Cranberry Township Emergency Medical Service will have vaccine available throughout the 2013-14 flu season, which normally peaks in February. Prior to the federal government shutdown, the Centers for Disease Control reported that the current flu vaccine is 60% effective and recommended that everyone 6 months or older be given inoculations. Flu vaccine causes antibodies to develop within about two weeks following vaccination; these antibodies provide protection against infection from the virus strains in the vaccine. Cranberry EMS will administer the flu vaccine at its base station, 802 Thomson Park Boulevard, for $20 per person payable by cash or check, but only by appointment. Appointments for vaccinations are available between 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM, on Mondays and Fridays. Call 724-776-4380 to schedule your flu shot.
