Cranberry Public Library is celebrating its 40th anniversary on October 31. To mark the occasion, library staff members will dress in their finest early ‘70s outfits and past due book fines will be returned to their 1973 rate: 2¢ per day.
Library patrons will also be treated to birthday cake and music from the era. However, the celebration and special late fee rate are for one day only. Halloween day, October 31, 1973, was the day the Cranberry Library’s charter was made official.
The library started with about 200 books in a 120 square foot room. Today it holds over 92,000 items – including much more than just books – with over 26,000 registered patrons in a 15,300 square feet space. Its annual circulation now tops 350,000 items and it maintains an active 24/7 presence on the Internet.
