[ARCHIVED] Drop-off drug disposal

Cranberry is participating in a statewide initiative to make it easier for local residents to safely and anonymously dispose of old, unwanted medications. A secure, self-service drug disposal box has been installed in the lobby of the Township’s Municipal Center police station. It is available whenever the police station is open: 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM weekdays and 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM Saturdays.

Most kinds of prescription and over-the-counter medications are acceptable. Needles, inhalers, aerosols, thermometers and medical wastes are the only exceptions. The disposal boxes, which will be emptied regularly and have their contents destroyed, are a permanent part of the Governor’s ‘Healthy Pennsylvania’ program which is operated as a partnership between the state’s district attorneys, local police departments and other agencies. A federal grant was instrumental in the purchase of 250 medicine return boxes statewide. The program’s goals are to keep unsafe medications out of the wrong hands and protect the environment. Similar programs are currently active in approximately 35 other states.
