[ARCHIVED] Supervisors consider options to upgrade wastewater treatment plant

Alternative approaches to meeting state requirements for the long-anticipated expansion and upgrade of Cranberry’s Brush Creek wastewater treatment plant were outlined to Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors at their January 30 meeting. Pennsylvania’s Department of Environmental Protection recently issued new requirements affecting the plant’s flow rates and associated treatment methods during peak weather events. In addition, tighter limits on the release of nutrients – limits which are likely to grow even more restrictive, must also be satisfied for the plant to secure its operating permits. The alternatives presented to the Board – each of which come with an assortment of challenges – range from $50 million for a single-phase approach, to $65 million for a two-phase approach. Recommended options will be presented to the Board on February 26 with final selection on March 6.

To explain the changes and to seek additional public input, an Open House will be held in Council Chambers on February 19 between 1:00 and 8:00 PM. For more information, contact Township Engineer Jason Kratsas at jason.kratsas@cranberrytownship.org.
