When Cranberry’s Collection Connection solid waste collection program was initiated ten years ago, the Township acquired nearly 25,000 carts of different sizes for garbage, recycling and yard waste. It was later determined that the number of carts actually needed was somewhat less than the quantity it had purchased with help from the state Department of Environmental Protection and the County of Butler. Accordingly, in response to a recent request from the City of New Castle, Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors, at its January 30 meeting, offered to donate 650 surplus 35 gallon carts and 100 surplus 64 gallon carts to support the Lawrence County city’s municipal solid waste program.
