The legal skeleton of the moribund Cranberry Municipal Sewer and Water Authority, whose powers were merged into the Township 15 years ago, is about to finally be dissolved. At their February 26 meeting, Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors voted to put the Authority’s final dissolution on their March 6 agenda. At the same time, in a separate action, the Board will vote on the creation of a new general purpose municipal authority designed to access grants from state, federal and private foundation sources not otherwise available to municipalities. Those funds would be used to enhance economic development in the Township by financing infrastructure improvements such as transportation. Five members of the new body, who will be appointed by Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors, were also tentatively named.
