[ARCHIVED] Sewer plant upgrade planning advances

The meticulous process crafted to find the best, most cost-effective design for the required upgrade and expansion of Cranberry’s Brush Creek wastewater treatment plant moved closer to conclusion as staff recommendations for the basis of design were presented to Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors on February 26. The preferred approach, which would be implemented in two phases approximately 15 years apart, will be considered for final approval by the Board at its March 6 meeting. Upon approval, a detailed design would be developed. Bids to construct the plant expansion would be solicited following the Board’s adoption of the detailed design, expected by spring of 2015. The first phase of the upgrade, which is intended both to serve Cranberry’s growing population and to satisfy increasing state environmental requirements, is estimated to cost $44 million. Separately, in keeping with newly revised Federal Securities and Exchange Commission rules, the Board will consider adopting a resolution authorizing Township officials to seek advice about financial options from PNC Capital at its March 6 meeting.
