The legal skeleton of the moribund Cranberry Municipal Sewer and Water Authority, whose powers were merged into the Township 15 years ago, has finally been dissolved. At their March 6 meeting, Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors voted to end the Authority. In a separate action, the Board voted to create a new municipal authority, called the Cranberry Township General Authority, designed to access grants from state, federal and private foundation sources not otherwise available to municipalities. Those funds would be used to enhance economic development in the Township by financing infrastructure improvements such as transportation. Five members of the new body, who will be appointed by Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors, were also named.
