Cranberry’s Brush Creek wastewater treatment plant, whose expansion has been in the planning stage for more than a year, will be upgraded in two phases. At their March 6 meeting, Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors approved a design strategy recommended by Township staff and consultants. The chosen approach, using Membrane and ATAD technology, would be implemented in two phases approximately 15 years apart. That approach will form the basis for developing a detailed final design over the next year. Bids to construct the plant expansion will be solicited once the Board approves the complete detailed design, expected by spring of 2015. The first phase of the upgrade, which is intended both to serve Cranberry’s growing population and to satisfy increasing state environmental requirements, is estimated to cost $44.7 million. Separately, in keeping with newly revised Federal Securities and Exchange Commission rules, the Board adopted a resolution authorizing Township officials to seek advice from PNC Capital about options for financing the plant.
