Funding became available after legislators adopted a plan last year to boost transportation funding statewide by $2.3 billion annually.
According to PennDOT, preparation work, including survey work and remaining right-of-way acquisition for the improvement project, will begin immediately. Construction should start in 2016 and continue through 2020.
It is not yet defined much funding will be directed toward related projects in Cranberry, including widening a section of Freedom Road near Route 19 and rebuilding a bridge over the Pennsylvania Turnpike. A project to resurface Freedom, from Rt. 19 to the Beaver County border is also in line for funding.
Nighttime work is continuing on a related PennDOT project affecting Freedom Rd. at the intersection of Rt. 228 and Rt. 19.
