The Cranberry CUP organization will mark its 15th anniversary this year, founder Cathy Cortazzo told Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors at their June 24 meeting. The organization’s mission, which began as an inter-neighborhood softball competition with modest fund raising goals, has expanded into a year-round effort with individuals, families and students in need benefiting from the organization’s charitable work. It has accumulated a number of business sponsors, most of whom return year after year, Ms. Cortazzo reported.
A 5k race will take place early Saturday morning, August 2 this year, with formal opening ceremonies at 10:00. A kickoff party, a golf tournament, and a home run derby will join the traditional softball tournament with an expected 60 to 65 business and neighborhood teams participating through the weekend. Since its start, the organization as raised and donated well over $1 million to people in need.
