The abrupt collapse of a series of utility poles onto Rt. 228 during a storm in June created a major disruption for the 40,000 vehicles which travel the busy highway daily, and for tens of thousands of others impacted by the event. At its September 4 meeting, Township Public Safety Director Jeff Schueler briefed the Board of Supervisors on Cranberry’s response to the disaster and its use of the Traffic Incident Management system, introduced to the region by the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission, in coordinating the various public agencies and utility companies in round-the-clock repairs. A video about the incident and its aftermath was shown as part of the presentation. That video is also available at www.cranberrytownship.org/228closure .
