The structure of Cranberry’s police force, which operates under the Township’s Director of Public Safety, was established 15 years ago. Since that time, its responsibilities have evolved. As a result, the police department’s structure has been in need of an update. To achieve that, an amended ordinance that retains the department’s current system of ranks but includes, among other changes, the position of Chief of Police – a job title which had been eliminated when the Public Safety Department initially formed – was adopted by Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors at its October 2 meeting. The updated ordinance also details procedures for reviewing probation, promotion, suspension, and removal of officers from the force.
