In a move to slow the steeply rising cost of health insurance for Township employees and to improve the predictability of costs from year to year, Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors approved the Township’s participation in the Delaware Valley Health Insurance Trust at its October 30 meeting. The Trust is widely recognized for its high level of service and low overhead costs. The Township is currently self-insured for its Workers Compensation program. It is also part of a self-insurance pool for property and casualty claims.
Under the new health insurance arrangement, which starts January 1, employee benefits will remain unchanged. Administration of the program, including the management of claims, will be contracted with Aetna, which is currently the insurance program’s underwriter as well as its administrator. A wellness program is also included as an element of the Trust health insurance package. All 140 members of the Delaware Valley Trust are Pennsylvania communities.
