The new signal sequence was activated Wednesday night at the heavily-travelled intersection of Route 19/Route 228/Freedom Road. The intersection has been upgraded to include dual lefts, dual through lanes, and a right turn lane in each direction. The traffic light’s timing now allows concurrent eastbound and westbound movement on Freedom Road and Route 228, followed by through movements in both directions.
The $3.6 million improvement project is being managed by PennDOT. Cranberry Township secured funding for this project through the Federal Congestion Mitigation/Air Quality (CMAQ) program, managed locally by the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission.
Cranberry, which is widely recognized as one of Pennsylvania's fastest-growing communities, plans to continue partnering with PennDOT in the management of its transportation systems.
