[ARCHIVED] Ambulance service continues to grow

Cranberry Township Emergency Medical Service, which was formed as the Ambulance Corps of the Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Company in the early 1960s, is now an independent agency with a full-time paid staff of 15, as well as 23 part-time personnel, and seven entry-level volunteers. But the organization has close ties to the Township, from which rents a newly constructed base station adjacent to Cranberry’s Park Fire Station and receives a fuel subsidy. At its February 5 meeting, Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors was given a review of EMS operations in 2014 by the agency’s Board President, Don Scelza. In addition to responding to 3,540 calls from Butler 9-1-1, Cranberry EMS had extensive involvement in community events, in CPR training, in child safety seat inspection, and in training with Township police and firefighters.
