Traffic lights in Cranberry are currently governed by time-of-day signal plans. Those plans, in turn, are based on traffic patterns measured during typical weekday and weekend periods. But on special occasions, such as Penguin hockey events, or contingencies such as unexpected road closures, those timing plans don’t work well. To provide for those sorts of exceptional situations, Cranberry applied for and received a grant of $40,000 from PennDOT which will be matched by the Township. The funds, which are part of the state’s Green Light-Go program, will be used to develop alternate timing plans.
