More than a dozen winners of Cranberry’s first Community Hoop Shoot Classic, sponsored by Rowan Elementary School and the Cranberry Lions Club, were recognized at the April 2 meeting of Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors. Each of the honorees – who had been grouped by grade and gender for the competition – were issued commemorative statues commemorating their achievement, and congratulations from the Township Board. Sponsored by the Lions Club, the March event featured a foul-shot competition and a hot-shot contest for children in first through sixth grades. Admission to the event was free, however $5 donations were accepted to support the VIP Sports Camp at Slippery Rock University, which provides sports and recreation opportunities for children and teenagers who are visually impaired or blind.
