[ARCHIVED] PennDOT to reveal new Freedom Road Turnpike bridge design

A PennDOT project is now underway to replace the narrow Freedom Road Turnpike crossing – long considered a chokepoint along the busy east-west corridor – with a longer, wider span. From 6:00 to 8:00 PM on November 5, PennDOT Engineering District 10 will hold an Open House in the Franklin Station South meeting room of the Cranberry Public Library in the Township’s Municipal Center to present preliminary plans for the new structure, which will add traffic lanes to the bridge deck itself and accommodate the eventual addition of Turnpike travelling lanes below it.

Information on the project’s status, schedule, design, and traffic control during construction will be on display for public review and comment. PennDOT representatives, along with design consultants, will be on hand to answer questions.

Anyone with knowledge of historic resources in the project area, or who would like to comment on the project’s potential impact on local historic resources, is urged to attend this meeting.

The location is ADA accessible. Anyone requiring special assistance is asked to contact Public Information Officer Deborah Casadei at 724-357-2829 prior to the meeting. For additional information about the project, contact Senior Project Manager Melanie Percha at 724-357-4804.
