Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors has paved the way for an application to Pennsylvania’s Commonwealth Financing Authority for $2.9 million toward the construction of a new eastbound lane on Rt. 228. The lane, now in preliminary design, would run from the I-79 northbound exit ramp east to Franklin Road. If the grant is approved, a number of follow-up steps, including final design, environmental permits, right of way acquisition and construction bidding will need to take place before a building contract can be awarded. At its December 3 meeting, the Board authorized the Township Manager to accept and execute any documents or agreements needed to facilitate the grant application. Construction of the mile-long lane, which anticipates the eventual widening of 228 east of Cranberry, is also expected to help relieve a current traffic pinch point at its intersection with Franklin Road.
