The white streaks lining key roadways in Cranberry Township are actually telltale signs of planning ahead. The streaks – which are the residue of salty brine dispensed from the Township’s Public Works fleet – are designed to delay the next snow from bonding to treated surfaces long enough to give Cranberry’s truck operators an opportunity to get out and clear the roads with plows, rock salt, and calcium chloride. Township roads west of Rt. 19 are being treated first. The brine is produced at a Township-owned plant next to Cranberry’s Public Works building.
