[ARCHIVED] Cranberry’s economic growth sustained

Cranberry’s emerging role as a regional economic center has been confirmed over the past four years, according to data from an economic outlook study presented to Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors by Business & Economic Development Manager Chelsea Puff on February 25. Its population more than doubled between 1990 and 2014, from 14,816 to 30,149, with a projected population of 50,000 by 2030. Cranberry’s median household income exceeded $100,000 last year, and median home values exceeded $250,000. Employment also grew with 23,700 people employed in the Township during 2015, generating a very low 3% unemployment rate for the community – significantly below the rates for either Butler County, Pennsylvania, or the United States as a whole. Among those employed in the Township, 5,400 worked for its five largest employers, with the rest spread across a broad cross section of industries. Cranberry also stands out as a retail market with more than $1.5 billion spent there on retail goods per year. Commercial and residential construction have remained strong over the past four years as the Township continues its efforts to track, plan for, and enable business development.
