The HMS Green Team, including 25 students from the 6th grade class of Haine Middle School purpose teacher Allison Stebbins, offered an explanation of the Wet Weather Problem affecting Western Pennsylvania’s watersheds at the March 3 meeting of Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors. Water pollution risks involving lawn care, pet waste, motor vehicles, and sedimentation were addressed in the students’ presentation, along with potential solutions, including landscape plantings, rain barrels, and the use of gravel on slopes. Township engineer Tim Schutzman prefaced the student presentation with a summary of Cranberry’s stormwater handling compliance requirements under state law.
