[ARCHIVED] Final design of highway underpass authorized

Authorization to prepare a final design for the MSA Throughway – formerly referred to as the ‘flyunder’ – was given at the May 26 meeting of Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors. HRG will prepare the final engineering design following completion of the conceptual work and project permitting prepared by Mackin Engineering. The road will carry traffic exiting I-79 northbound through a loop ramp which will cross underneath 228 and into a Cranberry Springs roundabout. That traffic will be joined by vehicles crossing from Cranberry Woods – all without merging into 228 traffic. Construction of the completed project – 80 percent of which will be financed by the Cranberry Springs developer – is estimated at somewhere in the range of $10 million. Another $3.2 million in land value was donated by MSA toward the project. Construction is expected to take place in 2017 and 2018. For more information, contact Jason Kratsas, Director, Engineering
