The Sheetz convenience store on Freedom Road recently acquired a state license to sell beer and wine. Approximately half of the company’s 500 stores currently sell alcoholic beverages. The Pennsylvania license, which permits consumption on and off the premises, was purchased at a public auction. It had previously belonged to Cranberry’s On The Border Tex-Mex restaurant at Longtree Way. Following the restaurant’s loss of its license, the permit was put for auction by the state’s Liquor Control Board; Sheetz was the highest bidder. Sheetz competitor Get-Go is currently selling beer. At its February 2 meeting, Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors approved the license transfer; local government acceptance of liquor license transfers is required by state law.
