[ARCHIVED] Slow-down campaign picks up speed

Two stages of a neighborhood-centric slow-down drive – one at the beginning and another at the end of the school year – will take place in Cranberry this year. The campaign, which is now starting its seventh year in Cranberry, is aimed at increasing drivers’ awareness of their speed, which is a problem in essentially every residential neighborhood where the posted limit is 25 miles an hour. Messaging during the two phases of the campaign – which is a joint effort of the neighborhood homeowners’ associations and various Township departments – will include post-mounted signs, yard signs, radar-activated speed signs, and increased police patrols. Dates for the campaign are May 29 through June 10 and September 5 – 19, according to Assistant Township Manager Duane McKee who presented the plan to Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors at its April 27 meeting. Last year, 28 different neighborhoods participated in the campaign. Program costs have been underwritten by CTCC – Cranberry Township Community Chest; RJ Development Company, and the Township government.
