[ARCHIVED] Slow Down Campaign

End of school year prompts new driver awareness campaign

A new wave of yard signs, radar speed signs, and traffic counters are about to go up in a number of Cranberry Township neighborhoods starting May 29, along with increased police patrols.

The start of summer typically brings more children and pets out, including play on and around neighborhood roadways. The Drive 25 campaign, with strong support from local homeowner associations, is designed to raise driver attentiveness to the need for increased vigilance and speed moderation.

The 12-day program – build around the nationwide campaign theme designed by the Kansas-based Keep Kids Alive – Drive 25 Foundation, is timed to raise driver awareness of Cranberry’s residential speed limit of 25 miles an hour, particularly at the start of summer vacation for public school students. A companion two-week awareness program will begin September 5 to coincide with the later-than-usual 2017 start of the Seneca Valley school year.

Last year, 29 Cranberry neighborhoods took part in the campaign. Participation in this year’s campaign is available to any neighborhood, PRD or subdivision homeowners association in the Township by contacting Assistant Township Manager Duane McKee.

Program costs are being underwritten by CTCC – Cranberry Township Community Chest; RJ Development Company, and the Cranberry Township government.
