[ARCHIVED] Street lighting code provisions nudged into 21st century

For the past 30 years, Cranberry’s zoning ordinance has included highly detailed language regarding street lights. For example, “One footcandle illumination shall be measured horizontally on the ground surface and vertically at a five-foot height at the property lines.” But that code was written before the advent of LED fixtures. At its May 25 meeting, Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors authorized the advertising of language which would completely replace that section of the code. Under the revision, developers would know more clearly what can and cannot be done, what’s regulated, what isn’t. Any new street lights will have to be LED. The update also adds detail about pedestrian lighting along trails. The Board will revisit the proposed update at its regular business meeting July 6.
