[ARCHIVED] Cranberry’s bright idea

Cranberry’s hard-to-follow 30-year old lighting ordinance has been repealed and replaced with an entirely new one that incorporates technologies, like LED fixtures, which did not exist at the time the original code was adopted. At its June 29 meeting, Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors approved the updated ordinance amendment. Its provisions apply to new residential street and commercial development; current residents of single-family homes are not regulated. However, if a PRD wants to change its lights or put new ones in, it would be obliged to comply with the new provisions. The ordinance requires the use of LED lighting for street and pedestrian-oriented lamps and deals with both the color and the intensity of the light they give off. The ordinance also attempts to reduce reflective sky glare by requiring bulbs to shine downward instead of outward.
