[ARCHIVED] Keeping up appearances

There are more results from poor property maintenance than simply creating an eyesore. It can also create health and fire hazards. At its September 28 meeting, Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors heard a joint presentation from Planning and Development Services Director Ron Henshaw, Engineering Director Jason Kratsas, and Fire Risk Reduction Coordinator Jeff Gooch advocating a more comprehensive, better detailed and more enforceable maintenance code than the Township’s current 2002 version. Details of Cranberry’s proposed new ordinance, derived from the International Property Maintenance Code, are not yet ready for presentation but are expected to be available in time for the Board’s October 26 meeting. Under its provisions, when properties are in a state of disrepair, the new code would require owners to take action although, according to Henshaw, Township staff would work with property owners to find solutions and provide alternatives wherever possible.
