The rise of digital television along with a surge in digital cell phone service has led the federal government to re-allocate frequency assignments in the electromagnetic spectrum. One result is that use of the current radio frequencies by public safety agencies, including in Butler County, is slated to end. Consequently Cranberry, along with many other communities, is now working on plans to replace its current system with a new and much improved one. At its September 28 meeting, Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors was briefed on the replacement system, which will cost $628,000 – a cost shared by the County, the Fire Relief Association, Cranberry EMS and the Township’s taxpayers.
