Cranberry’s Uniform Construction Code Board of Appeals was created to hear property owners who take exception to decisions made by code enforcement officers. However, not every municipality has such a board, so Cranberry provides that service to Callery and Zelienople in addition to Township’s own appeal cases. The Borough of Sewickley has no appeals board, but Dick Hadley, Cranberry’s own Board of Supervisors Chairman, currently serves as Interim Manager of Sewickley. So when a case arose there, he turned to Cranberry as a possible source for hearings. At its January 7 meeting, Cranberry’s Board adopted an Intergovernmental Cooperation Ordinance between the Township and Sewickley authorizing the Cranberry appeals board to hear Sewickley cases. Sewickley’s elected officials are expected to adopt a corresponding ordinance enabling the Township’s board to hear and decide on those appeals.
