[ARCHIVED] Control box artists competition concludes

Five of the electronic control cabinets next to traffic light poles at most signalized intersections will soon become works of art. A joint pilot project by the Township and the Cranberry Artists Network identified a handful of utility boxes at high-traffic intersections to become canvases for original artwork. In January, the Township joined with with the Artists Network to begin soliciting ideas from artists for images. Altogether, 91 entries were received and a committee was formed to screen the applicants’ ideas. In May, five of the artists’ works were selected. Each artist receives a $400 licensing fee, along with their name and title of their work on the box. The winning artists include Debra Tobin, Monica Hietsch, Samantha Podnar, and two others.
