Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors has approved the intermunicipal transfer of a liquor license from a holder in Chicora to Supersale Corporation, owner of the Giant Eagle franchise in Cranberry. The store, which has operated at its Cranberry Mall location in Cranberry since 1988, will become one of approximately 75 supermarkets in Pennsylvania currently licensed to sell beer in their restaurant areas. The store’s approach to beer sales will involve expanding café seating from 60 to 71 and constructing a fence within the store to more clearly separate the café from the remaining areas of the store. Beer could be consumed on the premises, but only if the patron also orders food, and even then, with a two-beer limit. Although the store is open for business 24/7, its café would only sell beer between 9:00 AM and 9:00 PM. All patrons would be required to produce a photo ID in order to purchase beer, and no single purchase could exceed the equivalent of two six-packs.
