[ARCHIVED] Foul ball net snags Supervisors’ support

A contract for materials to construct a consultant’s design for a series of elevated nets around the backstop and foul lines in ballfields I and J of Graham Park’s baseball campus was awarded by Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors at its meeting on March 3. The new system, which was designed in response to the large number of foul balls – as well as home runs – landing outside the playing fields’ perimeters, is projected to retain three quarters of the foul balls when completed.
Plans for a system of elevated netting, which were developed in close collaboration with CTAA, will raise the current 28-foot backstop fence height to 38 feet and raise the current 8-foot infield fence height to 28 feet. The $30,500 contract for the foul ball protection system was awarded to Ford Fencing. Final implementation of the contract is pending the execution of a reimbursement agreement with CTAA. Cranberry Township Public Works personnel will install the system. For more detail, contact Cranberry Township Engineer Jason Kratsas
