[ARCHIVED] Upcoming developments along 228 to become job engine

In a presentation to Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors on March 3, Chief Strategic Planning Officer John Trant, Jr. reviewed a number of major improvements along the Rt. 228 corridor which are currently either funded, in design, or expected to be built over the next several years. Many of them involve partnerships with private developers who have investments on or near that corridor. Among the projects: ramps linking 228 with I-79 that will avoid left turns. Sophisticated traffic signal timing. The multi-purpose Village at Cranberry Woods development and its connection of Long Tree Way to a newly signalized intersection with Franklin Road. The “Cranberry Crossroads” development adjacent to Cranberry Commons. And the realignment of Mars Road with Old Mars Road. Funding for long-range improvements to the intersection of Routes 19 and 228, among others. Together with approximately 250 acres of undeveloped property in the immediate vicinity, those improvements are expected to attract new and expanded employment opportunities involving high-paying jobs.

“PennDOT worked hard to keep the I-79 ramps project moving and we are building that momentum to update the Township’s 228 master plan so its economic development potential can be realized,” Trant told the Board. For more information, contact Chief Strategic Planning Officer John Trant Jr.
