[ARCHIVED] Keep your cool

Exceptionally hot weather can be exceptionally dangerous. In fact, more Americans die from extreme heat than from hurricanes, lightning, tornadoes, floods, and earthquakes combined.
Health professionals urge you to drink plenty of fluids (although alcohol and high-sugar drinks actually cause you to lose body fluids); wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing; use sunscreen and sunglasses outdoors; pace yourself to avoid exhaustion; check in with elderly neighbors; keep your pet’s water dish full; and never leave children or pets inside a closed car.

Stay in air-conditioned buildings as much as you can. Cranberry’s air conditioned Public Library opens every day but Sunday at 10:00 AM. It remains open until 8:00 PM Monday through Thursday, until 5:00 on Fridays, and until 4:00 on Saturdays. Take the opportunity to visit Cranberry’s Community Waterpark and cool down in the pool, which is open from 11:30 AM to 8:00 daily
