In an event as massive as the aftermath of Hurricane Ike, it is impossible to get an immediate assessment of the damage. In Cranberry, most of the power lost appeared to have been restored within 24 hours of the Sunday night windstorm, and there were no reports of injuries. However, there may be households and individuals in our community who have sustained serious losses which have not yet been reported to public safety agencies or to the utility companies. Although the Township and other organizations are mobilized to help, they need to know where help is needed.
If you or someone you know is in need of emergency assistance, or if there is a dangerous electrical situation such as a tree down on wires, a burning transformer, or a broken utility pole, contact 911 or First Energy/Penn Power (1-888-544-4877) right away. And if the electric company doesn’t respond the same day, call again the following day – that’s the way they determine who has power and who doesn’t. For information or other service, call Cranberry Township’s Customer Service Desk , 724-776-4806. If you have neighbors – particularly elderly or disabled residents who may not be able to respond for themselves – check in on them and see if they need help.
